Introducing The Lovely Sara….

Hello everyone! Huge thanks to Case for having me here today, and for helping me to promote The Awakened in its first week! I’m really excited to be here, especially since it was such a journey to get here.

If there’s one thing I never really realized about being an author, its that the journey to become a published one is almost harder than writing the actual book. Writing is hard. Its hard because not everyone can do it. Its hard because it takes a lot of hard work and effort. Its hard work because not everyone is going to believe in you. Its hard work because it involves a LOT of rejection.

It took me a total of 9 months to write The Awakened. This has caused me to jokingly say that the book is my baby but its also the truth. It was a rough journey to get from idea to full book. I do NOT write science fiction at all, ever. I’m all about that contemporary romance so writing this book felt and still sometimes feels like a fluke. Then after I did manage to write that book, it took me another four months of editing and rewriting and figuring out what to keep and what to cut. Then it took my over a year of querying agents.

This, I feel, was the hardest part. Oh yeah, they tell you about the rejection, and how it kind of feels like it never stops but eventually you DO get a yes. But when you’re in the middle of doing it, oh it doesn’t feel like that “yes” is ever going to come. Its rejection after rejection after rejection and its incredibly discouraging. I am so lucky to have any amazing support system, both in real life and online to keep me going. I’m lucky to be friends with so many authors who kept encouraging me to keep going, keep making it happen.

Eventually I got a yes. The amazing, the wonderful, the passionate, the fabulous Benjamin of Benjamin of Tomes created his own company and took a chance with MY novel. His company, OfTomes, had just started, and he’d announced his first book and that he was taking submissions. I was about ready to put The Awakenedon the shelf, so to speak, and focus on the novel I finished this past summer, a contemporary romance called Benched. I figured I could explore the option of self-publishing in 2016. Seeing that Ben was taking submissions, I thought…well, why not?

And that is when I finally got my yes. Today I’m a published author. I’ve been a published author for two whole days. I’ve had people all over the world purchase my book. I’ve had people finish it already. I’ve had an epic twitter party, where awesome people participated. The Awakened even trended on Twitter for a whole 12 hours! It was a long journey to get here. It took two years to take a small tiny idea and make it into this awesome thing that people are buying. Would I say it was worth it?

Most definitely.
