Most papers have outright thesis statements or objectives. Normally you will not devote a separate section of the paper to this; in fact, often the thesis or objective is conveniently located either right at the beginning or right at the end of the Introduction. A good thesis statement fits only the paper in which it appears. Thesis statements usually forecast the paper’s content, present the paper’s fundamental hypothesis, or even suggest that the paper is an argument for a particular way of thinking about a topic. Avoid the purely mechanical act of writing statements like "The first topic covered in this paper is x. The second topic covered is y. The third topic is . . ." Instead, concretely announce the most important elements of your topic and suggest your fundamental approach—even point us toward the paper’s conclusion if you can.
Here are two carefully focused and thoughtfully worded thesis statements, both of which appeared at the ends of introductory paragraphs:
A method of predicting the long-term aging characteristics of paper by exposing it to an elevated temperature and controlled environment of dry and moist heat for a specific time and then measuring its strength loss.
How an instructor or lecturer determines what is meant by a term paper is usually their choice, since the expression is a loose one that may or may not involve extensive research, and may or may not cover all the work in a semester or ‘term.’
A term paper is usually assigned to students as a research assignment that covers most of the material given over an academic term: a semester, or a whole academic year. It is used by examiners and instructors to estimate how well a student has understood, researched, and incorporated the set material and activities associated with the course.
Depending on the subject being studied, students can choose excellent topics on which to base a term paper to demonstrate how well they have understood the work or research covered during the term. Science, arts, business, communications, and engineering subjects all provide absorbing topics that can be used, but care must be taken to devise a topic that engages most of the material studied in a comprehensive way. Term papers are important when it comes to grading a student’s progress, so a term paper must showcase as much ground covered as possible.
It can mar an otherwise good paper because an outcome that is pre-determined in your head, regardless of the research findings along the way, will be molded to fit the outcome, rather than the outcome reflecting a genuine analysis of the discoveries made.
Be sure to read the for writing essays before you attempt to write your paper. The paper will be no less than 1500 and no more than 1800 words. The paper should be typed, double spaced, with one inch margins on all sides. Number the pages on the upper right hand corner and staple together in the upper left hand corner. The cover page should include your name, the title of this course, the topic number, and the title of your paper. The title should be 8-10 words in length. At the end of your paper write the number of words. TURN IN THE PAPER AS AN ATTACHMENT TO AN E-MAIL MESSAGE. ALWAYS REMEMBER TO MAKE A COPY OF YOUR PAPER BEFORE YOU TURN IT IN!
Of course, papers should always be typed, double-spaced on 8-1/2 x 11 paper on one side of the page only, and letter-quality print or better is always expected. Often you are expected to supply a cover sheet giving the date, your name, the title of the paper, the class, and the professor’s name. Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively throughout the text, and if there are a good number of them, then separate lists of tables and figures at the beginning of the paper may be expected. Tables and figures should always have descriptive captions, and if they come directly from sources, the sources must be specifically credited in the captions with the same citation style that you use throughout the paper.

A paper with a relatively high opacity at 96% and above will have almost no show- through from printing on the reverse side or the sheet below. Selecting a paper with high opacity is specially important if the printing includes solid block of colors, bold type and heavy coverage.
